In the early part of June, Temecula Valley hosts their Balloon and Wine Festival right by Skinner Lake. I have been to my share of wine festivals, but this one by far, steals the show!! Most wine festivals have expensive admission prices, claustrophobic parking lots and lines, rude attendants, bad tasting food, and minimal entertainment. This festival surpasses all previous expectations!!
It is a little drive out of LA, and we decided to go on Sunday (the fest runs fri-sun). I purchased a Cabana Club ticket for $40 which included admission, discount on wine tickets, front seating in the Cabana for the FMX show, all you can eat buffet catered by Tilted Kilt (yummy!), and VIP access to the fields. But a regular admission price is only $17!! A great deal!! It was such an easy breezy festival to attend, parking was a cinch, only $5! And the numerous attendants greeted us with a warm welcome!!
The park is filled with wineries and their tents all along the perimeter. I suggest you mainly keep your wine tickets for full glass pours and keep your wine tastings to a minimum...this way you get more for your money! If you purchase $20 worth of wine tickets you receive a logo glass that you can keep from the festival!
Sunday there was an FMX show, which we had a great time watching. Our seats were seperated from the general admission and we had a perfect spot with our table. We were able to sit back and relax under a shaded Cabana while watching the show.
There was also vendors there with great finds!! I indulged in a hat and a multi-colored balloon charm to hang on the patio. You have to get there pretty early (5AM) if you want to see the hot air balloon launch...but there are a lot of things to enjoy at the festival. Onstage they have live bands playing with great summer songs to dance to! You can even camp out there by the lake if you wanted! I plan to do that next year!
I love getting out of the city for an outing for the day, and this was a perfect trip to take! The people were friendly, the staff was helpful, food was fabulous, the weather was perfect, the wine was stunning, and the entertainment was awesome! I highly recommend this festival if you want a hassle free, inexpensive, fully entertaining, beautiful escape! I certainly did!!
